BEWARE OF AMATEURS, INEXPERIENCED OR SIMPLY DISHONEST PEOPLE.
I decided to create this WARNING because 95% of the homeowners know absolutely nothing about reglazing. AND
REGLAZING IS NOT A STRAIGHTFORWARD, ONE HOUR JOB.
At $250 an hour, it is very easy for someone to make several "reglazings" per day and be extremely well paid. This "easy buck environment" attracts many dishonest people into this business, and the consequence is that in just a few months the paint in your tub will peel off and your money will be wasted.
A proper reglazing application that will last 5 years or more, can only be achieved with a very professional, no rush approach, using quality prep material that takes several hours to be achieved.
We have 2 STRONG enemies in our process of reglazing tubs or tiles in South Florida.
The first one is the mix of soap scum and the excess calcium that exists in the South Florida waters which, after years of showering, form a thin crust on the bottom of tubs and shower pans that become bonded to the surface and it is very hard to remove. You can actually see it and most people simply don't know how to remove it.
If that residue is not properly removed prior to the reglazing process, THE PAINT WILL PEEL OFF.
GUARANTEED.
The other enemy is the luster on both the tubs and the tiles.
Most steel tubs are manufactured using a process called Powder Coating which is baked on a 3000 degree oven. Tiles are manufactured under a similar process to create those very resistant, shiny, vitreous surfaces we are so familiar with. For the reglazing material to "bond" properly to these vitreous surfaces, there's only one way to do it. It is called "etching", which is done using a very powerful and corrosive acid.
If these vitreous surfaces are not "etched" prior to the reglazing process, THE PAINT WILL PEEL OFF.
GUARANTEED.
These procedures take time and require the use of expensive materials, which many do not want to spend their money on.
I don't cut corners to provide you with a new finish that not only looks great, but will last long as well. That's why I GUARANTEE my work in writing.
